Seattle, WA – November 3, 2011 – Anticipation for the holidays is high, with five performances already sold out. Plenty of tickets remain for this five-week, 48-performance run of ACT Theatre’s annual holiday spectacle, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Now in its 36thyear, this 90-minute version is adapted by Gregory A. Falls and will be staged by Seattle director Allison Narver (The Female of the Species, Eurydice, The Clean House), returning after her acclaimed production last year. Theatre veterans David Pichette (played Scrooge nine times and performed in 12 A Christmas Carols at ACT) and Jeff Steitzer (performed Scrooge twice at ACT; B’way credits: Inherit The Wind; Mary Poppins; also, Voice of God Multiplayer Announcer for all HALO video games) alternate performances in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. Sarah Grace Roberts returns for her second turn as Tiny Tim. Sarah is a 2nd grader at Glacier Park Elementary in Maple Valley.
New this year is an exciting collaboration between ACT and Seattle Children’s Hospital. The two not-for-profit organizations are joining forces to support the health and artistic growth of young people in our region. The Tiny Tim Fund is a shared donation to Seattle Children’s Hospital and ACT’s Young Playwrights Program. More information about the fund is available below.
A Seattle holiday tradition since 1976, ACT’s A Christmas Carol adaptation follows the original Dickens tale and takes audiences along on Ebenezer Scrooge’s transformational journey guided with the help of ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. As relevant now as it was when it was originally written, it continues to remind us what’s really worth celebrating – at the holidays, and all year long. At a swift and lively 90 minutes in length, A Christmas Carol offers audiences the opportunity to share in a meaningful holiday event that everyone can enjoy at special – and busy - time of year.
A Christmas Carol was first published in 1843, inspired by Dickens’ impassioned concern for the welfare and reform of 19th century London’s huge underclass, and in particular for the plight of the children of the poor, and it has never been out of print. “Thousands of families in the Northwest make ACT’s A Christmas Carol part of their annual holiday tradition,” says Artistic Director Kurt Beattie, “Not only is it a great way to introduce young people to live theatre, but it is a wonderful story for generations to experience together to truly appreciate the uplifting message.”
A Christmas Carol is recommended for ages five and up. The A Christmas Carol creative team and cast members are available for interviews. ACT is proud to present the Tiny Tim Fund, a shared donation to Seattle Children’s Hospital and our own Young Playwrights Program to support the health and artistic growth of the young people in our region. Patrons ordering tickets to A Christmas Carol will be encouraged to add a $2 donation to their order to support both causes. ACT is also hosting a benefit performance of A Christmas Carol for Seattle Children’s Hospital on Friday, December 9th. The event will feature a pre-show dinner and fundraising opportunities, as well as a post-performance dedication and invitation to support the cause for the full audience.
