From its humble beginnings on May 23, 1910 with only 19 members whose services were spoken in Swedish, Ebenezer Lutheran church has become a landmark of the Lake Stevens community.
One hundred years later, the church has 200 members in their congregation and a 20,000 square foot building they call home.

The original congregation met in Hartford and was served by pastors from Seattle and Everett.
A 1954 write-up regarding the church in its early days states, “It was no easy task in those days for the pastors to get to Hartford. One had to remain overnight to make the return trip to Everett. Some of the earlier pastors traveled by horse and buggy while others came out from Everett on bicycles.”

In 1954 the building at 2111 117th Ave. NE was completed after years of saving money for the construction and purchase of the property.

Since then, the building has been remodeled and additions have been made to include a pre-school, Sunday School wing and fellowship hall.

Ebenezer also hosts several community events and programs including the Lake Stevens Food Bank, monthly community supper, a Senior lunch each week and the Norwegian Pancake Breakfast.
“Ebenezer has faithfully served God and our community in these last 100 years through outreach, social ministries and fellowship,” it says in a statement.

Some members of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church congregation have had generations of family confirmed in the church including Loydeen Chapman, a member of the Century Committee whose grandmother was in the first confirmation class.

Since then Chapman’s mother, children and grandchildren have all been a part of different confirmation classes. 
“Ebenezer is a place where people hear and experience the wonder of God’s amazing grace, forgiveness and love in Jesus Christ,” Pastor Lewis Benson said.

This Sunday, the church and its congregation will be celebrating its centennial birthday with  worship services at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. At 12:30 p.m. a catered luncheon will be held along with a Centennial program which will include former pastors, a confirmation reunion, and art walk and a Mission Project display.
The cost for the luncheon is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Tickets will be sold following the service.
