The gazebo at North Cove Park is a landmark in downtown Lake Stevens, but after years of beatings from the Pacific Northwest weather and basic wear and tear, the gazebo needed a major overhaul.

Local churches and companies stepped up to bring the old gazebo back to its original beauty and charm.
Last month, local church members from Elim Lutheran Church, Lakeside Community Fellowship, Lake Stevens Assembly, The Bridge Church and The Lake Church volunteered as part of Care Fest and painted the gazebo.
“A few weeks ago a group of volunteers with Care Fest (a consortium of local church members) repainted the whole gazebo in preparation for the new roof going on,” Diane “Scotty” Swift, Community Programs Planner for the City of Lake Stevens said.

On Friday, June 18, Snohomish Valley Roofing and SVR Construction brought crews over to replace the worn out roof.

SVR Construction and Snohomish Valley Roofing are owned and operated by lifetime Lake Stevens resident Dave Warrick and his wife, Janice Huxford.

Warrick and Huxford are strong supporters of the community. Their companies also sponsor the Aquafest Boat Parade and Lake Stevens Rowing Club. They believe that if you see a need you should do something about it.
“Dave was approached by the city, asking if he had excess materials that the city could use to reroof the gazebo prior to this summer’s rowing regatta, 2010 Aquafest anniversary and the Ironman Triathlon,” Huxford explained. “His response was to volunteer not only the materials but the labor.”

SVR Construction and Snohomish Valley Roofing employ eight people and focus on roofing and recycling dumpster rentals.

The city knows how important volunteers are to a community and hope that everyone in town will appreciate the gazebo and all of the hands it took to bring it back to life.

“The City would like to acknowledge Dave Warrick, Janice Huxford and their crew with SVR Construction and Snohomish Valley Roofing and the volunteers with Care Fest for their outstanding contribution to our community,” Swift said. “The little  gazebo will be transformed back into the little gem that it was and will continue to be utilized during many of the downtown events throughout the year.”
