Vikes place fourth at the 2010 WIAA 4A Mat Classic championships

At this year’s Mat Classic championship state tournament Lake Stevens came home with six top eight placers and a fourth place finish for the team.

The Vikings scored 89.5 points, only a half a point behind Moses Lake, who scored 90 points.
This was Lake’s eighth consecutive top four team championship/
This year’s team champs were the wrestlers from University with a total of 156.6 points.
Coming in second place was Tahoma with 114.5 points.

Senior Josh Heinzer, weighing in at 112 pounds, won his third straight state championship.
Heinzer defeated Rogers of Puyallup’s Bryce Evans by a 13-5 major decision in the 112 pound final to become the third Lake Stevens wrestler to win at least three individual state titles.

He joins the ranks of Kelly Kubec (2005-2007) and Burke Barnes (1999-2002).
Freshman Eric Soler, 103 pounds, took fifth place in his weight class and Junior Ryan Rodrigo, a three time state placer, took fifth in the 119 pound weight class.

Sophomore Steven Walkley, a two time state placer, took second place in the 135 pound weight class.
Senior Jacob Anderson, also a two time state placer, weighing in at 160 pounds took third in his weight class.
Senior Justin Grow, took eighth place in the 189 pound weight.

In the girl’s division, 103 pound senior JoMae Alewine was crowned champion. She is a four-time state girls placer.
