DNR schedules January 5 hearing in Sedro Woolley on proposed exchange between state land trusts

OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will hold a public hearing in Sedro Woolley on January 5 to receive testimony about a proposed exchange of lands between state trusts.

The proposal calls for approximately 330 acres of State Forest Transfer Trust land and approximately 30 acres of Capitol Building Trust land in Skagit County to be exchanged for equal valued property located on some 1,225 acres of Common School Trust land in Skagit and Snohomish Counties. Maps of the proposed transfer properties and additional descriptions will be available at the hearing and on the DNR website: www.dnr.wa.gov
Purpose of exchange
The proposed exchange would position approximately 360 acres of state trust land in Skagit County for a future transfer to Seattle City Light through the state’s Trust Land Transfer (TLT) Program. Only trust land with the Common School designation can be used for the TLT Program. The TLT Program provides funding to transfer special trust lands to a public agency to manage them for fish and wildlife habitat, open space, or recreation.
Comments welcome until January 11
All written testimony must be received by Monday, January 11, 2010. Comments will be considered by DNR in developing a final exchange agreement. A summary of the comments and the exchange agreement will be presented to the Board of Natural Resources at a regularly scheduled meeting.
